Canadian Masters Athlete of the Month – April 2023

Congratulations to Lucie Rochon, who is CMA Athlete of the Month for April 2023!

Lucie Rochon, 65 years old, won her 65-69 age group at the Boston Marathon in 3:25:58 on April 17th.   No records can ensue from the Boston Marathon because the course is overall, slightly downhill.  However, this was an outstanding time, and the fastest time in her age group since 2001.  Lucie resides in St-Augustin, QC, and is coached by Jacques Mainguy.

Honorable Mentions

Leslie Sexton, 35 years old, won the women’s 10k race at the Vancouver Sun Run  in the very fast time of 32:22 on April 16th.  Sherry Watts contributed that the race is net downhill so her time cannot be a record, although Leslie’s time betters the current W35-39 road best of 32:31. As per Sherry W, this was a huge race with 25322 participants; Leslie was 39th overall and 1st among 11884 women.  Leslie resides in Vancouver, BC, and is coached by Steve Weiler.

Malindi Elmore, 43 years old, placed second among women in the Vancouver Sun Run on April 16, 2023 in another fast time of 32:55 in cold, rainy conditions.  She is the only woman 40+ in the available race records from 2011 forward to have broken 33 minutes in this race, which typically includes both Canadian and foreign Olympians.  Malindi resides in Kelowna, BC, and is coached by Graeme Hood.
