Canadian Masters Athlete of the Month – January

There was a tie for the AOTM in January – M45 Yannick Le Mouël PQ and W45 Lucy Smith BC.

Lucy set a Canadian record in the 8K 28:45 (89.89%) and finished first master and second woman overall in the Cobble Hill 10K on January 27th in 36:00 (90.42%). The old CAN record was 29:09 held by Diane Legare PQ in 1997.

Yannick ran 8.85 in the 60m Hurdle on Jan 12th at Vert & Or Invitational Meet in Sherbrooke, breaking Scott Tyler’s Canadian M45 record – 8.98 in 1989.

There were some great performances in December. Betty Jean McHugh BC (photo) broke the W85 World Record in the Marathon 5:14:26 (5:12.03 chip) on December 09 in the Honolulu Marathon.

Carol Lafayette-Boyd SK had a 3.93m mark in the Long Jump at a meet in Regina on December 1st….breaking the W70 World Record.
