Congratulations to Christa Bortignon for winning Athlete of the Month (AOTM) for July 2023!
Christa Bortignon, 86, triple jumped to a new W85 WORLD RECORD of 6.52m on July 2, 2023 at the BC Masters Championships in Kelowna, BC. This leap broke her previous WR of 6.35m that she set in 2022 and is currently a full quarter meter further than the second best W85 triple jumper in the world in 2023! Christa lives in West Vancouver, BC and is self-coached.

Three excellent performances were selected as HONORABLE MENTION from many outstanding Canadian performances in July.
Émilie Lefebvre Bertrand, 40, set a new W40 pole vault Canadian record of 3.47m on July 19,at anOttawa Lions Twilight Meet in Ottawa. This eclipsed the previous record of 3.36m set in 2018 and places Émilie at the top of the W40 World Rankings so far in 2023. Émilie is so happy to be pole vaulting this year, after suffering a back fracture in February (not related to PV). She resides in Mascouche, QC and is coached by Tony Salmon and Ambroise Courteau.
Rachel Andres, 36, unleashed a massive discus throw of 54.56m at the Victoria Track Classic, Victoria, BC on July 16, 2023. This broke the previous Canadian W40 DT record by 6.16m, set in 2014. Rachel lives in Olds, AB and is coached by Kim Cousins and Chris Brown.
Jackson Hinton, 41, erased his recent M40 110m hurdle Canadian record with a 14.13s performance on July 8th at the Sherwood Park Track Classic in Sherwood Park, Alberta. He remains the fastest M40 hurdler in the world in 2023. Jackson lives in Edmonton, Alberta and is self-coached. He is ineligible to win AOTM because he won it in June; no athlete can be named AOTM more than once in a calendar year.
