The Canadian Masters Athletics Athlete of the Month for July is Carol LaFayette-Boyd, who broke four World Masters Athletics records.
She set the new triple jump standard of 7.45m (wind -3.0m/s) at the Bob Adams Saskatchewan Track & Field Championships. Then, at the Canadian Masters Outdoor Championships in Regina, she broke W80 world records in the 100m, 200m, and long jump with performances of 16.23s, 34.38s, and 3.69m, respectively. Carol continues to be one of the best masters athletes in the world.
July brought several other exceptional performances, three of which are receiving Honourable Mentions.
Maria Zambrano won the W50 10,000m at the Jack Brow Memorial meet in Kelowna with a Canadian Masters Athletics record time of 36:38.38. She also set the new 5,000m record of 17:23.35 at the Canadian Masters Outdoor Championships.
Johanna Flipsen won the W65 5k racewalk for Canada at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland. She then set the Canadian record in the 1500m racewalk at the Canadian Masters Outdoor Championships with a time of 8:24.10 and also won the 5K.
Teresa Chiozza (W70) also set Canadian racewalk records in Regina with 9:05.84 in the 1500m and 31:59.95 in the 5K.
