Canadian Masters Athlete of the Month – March 2024

Congratulations to Simon Rayner for being selected as the Athlete of the Month (AOTM) for March, 2024!

Simon, age 60, produced outstanding performances in the 800m, 1500m, one mile, and 3000m in March. Of these performances, arguably his best performance was his winning mile at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships on March 23rd in Chicago where he raced to a 5:00.19 time. This time lowered the Canadian record by over 5 seconds and was the second fastest indoor mile by a M60-64 in the world this indoor season. Simon lives in Toronto and is self-coached.

Congratulations to both Craig Maclean and Brian Murphy for being selected as the Honorable Mentions for March, 2024!

Craig Maclean, 52, ran a very fast 4:36.61 in the one mile race at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships on March 23rd in Chicago. Although third in a tight race, his time was very close to the 2024 world best for men 50-54 years in the indoor mile, which was achieved in the same race. Craig lives in Abbotsford BC and is currently coached by Paul Osland.

Brian Murphy, 62, set a new M60-64 Canadian best time of 1:17:55 for the half marathon at the aptly named Chilly Half Marathon in Burlington, Ontario on March 3rd. He placed ahead of all runners 55 and over. Brian lives in London, Ontario and is coached by Reid Coolsaet.
