Canadian Masters Athlete of the Month – September 2022

We have awarded the AOTM designation to two CMA athletes for September. Congratulations to Natasha Wodak and Mike Ransky for their phenomenal performances!

Natasha Wodak (W40) raced to a new Canadian open record in the Berlin Marathon on September 25th with a speedy time of 2:23:12. Natasha considers North Vancouver, BC to be her home base and she is coached by Trent Stellingwerff.

Mike Ransky (M50) powered his discus 58.74m to a new Canadian record in a meet in Hamilton, ON on September 19th. This outstanding throw ranked him first of over 700 men in his age group around the world. Mike is self-coached.

Honourable Mention

Additionally, performances by Brian Murphy (M60) and Linda MacDonald (W55) merited Honourable Mention. Both athletes broke longstanding Canadian masters’ records.

Brian Murphy raced to a 1:18:37 time in the Georgina Half Marathon, which eclipsed Ed Whitlock’s record, set in 1994! Brian hails from London, ON and is a coach himself.

Linda MacDonald also broke a longstanding record in the Chicago Marathon on September 11 with her gun time of 3:07:02. Unlike younger elite runners, gun times are slower for older runners in major marathons, so her chip time was even faster! Linda lives in Bedford, NS and is coached by Lee McCarron.
