Congratulations to both Rachel Andres and David Guss for winning Athlete of the Month (AOTM) for September, 2023!
Rachel Andres, 36 years old, broke the W35 world record (WR) in the Throws Pentathlon on September 23 in Calgary with her points total of 3596. Her throws were as follows: Hammer Throw: 43.26m; Shot Put: 13.33m; Discus Throw: 51.77m; Javelin: 35.02m; and Weight Throw: 14.63m. Rachel lives in Olds, AB and is coached by Kim Cousins (Calgary, AB) and Chris Brown (Tulsa, OK).

David Guss, 63 years old, set the M60 Canadian record for the 10 mile road race on September 17th. Racing in the Surf City 10 Mile Run on September 17 in Huntington Beach, California, David broke Ed Whitlock’s 1994 10 mile record with his 59:05 time. Ed Whitlock’s records have been touted as unbreakable! No world rankings or records are maintained for the 10 mile distance. David lives in Kelowna, BC and is self-coached.

Honorable Mention
Mélanie Guy, age 45, set the Canadian record in the W45 Throws Pentathlon with 3636 points on September 16th in Sherbrooke, QC, which ranked her #1 in the World Rankings at the time. She subsequently exceeded this points total in October, so she currently holds the two best point totals for W45 in the world! Mélanie resides in Belœil, QC and is coached by David Delombaerde.
