Canadian Masters Athlete of the Month – September

Two Canadian Masters Athletes set world records last month to earn co-Athlete of the Month honours.

Lenore Montgomery set the W90 1500m world record of 12:34.67 at a meeting hosted by the Greyhounds Masters Track and Field Club on September 12 in Surrey, BC. Lenore also ran the 800m and set a new Canadian W90 record with a time of 6:13.82.

Myrtle Acton set the W85 weight throw world record with a distance of 9.87m at the Cory Holly Throws Meet in Vernon, BC on September 19. Her throw has a remarkably high age-grading of over 117%. Myrtle also threw the hammer at the same meet and broke the Canadian W85 record with a toss of 21.49m.

Three additional athletes have earned honourable mentions this September. Kristen Dajia broke three W55 throws records, 28.73m in the discus, 13.03m in the weight throw, and 3780 in the throws pentathlon. Marek Glowacki (M80) also set a new Canadian record in the throws pentathlon with a score of 4086 points, during which his shot put of 11.63m was also a Canadian record. On September 11, Karla del Grande set a new W65 300m hurdles record with a time of 54.70s, narrowly missing the world record of 54.06s.
