CMA Announces the 2013 Hall Of Fame Inductees

The members of the committee for the Canadian Masters Athletics Hall of Fame are pleased to announce the names of the CMA members to be inducted into the Hall for 2013.  The induction ceremony will take place as part of the annual Awards Banquet taking place in Regina on Saturday, July 27, during the CMA 2013 National Outdoor Championships.  In the Athlete category, those to be honoured are Garry Bachman (1921-2012) and Margaret Tosh.  Joining the Hall in the Executive category is Vern Christensen.

During Garry Bachmann’s prolific career as a thrower, he won Canadian championships in every age category from M60 to M90.  He began setting Canadian records in his 70s, adding 3 World records and 5 World gold medals in the following years.  He has earned many awards, including CMA Male Athlete of the year for Field Events for 2012.

Margaret Tosh, also a thrower, began her career in her 50s, and was soon winning both Canadian and World Championships medals.   She also contributes to Masters Athletics as a coach and official.  Now competing in W75, she continues to post outstanding results, both in individual throws and in the Throws Pentathlon.

Vern Christensen has been contributing to Masters Athletics in many roles since the early 90s, including 17 years as a member of the Executive or Board of CMAA/CMA.  He also serves on the international scene, both as Manager of the Canadian team for World Masters Athletics (WMA) Championships and as a member of a WMA Legal Committee.  When not in meetings, he also competes at the national and international levels, excelling in the Steeplechase.
