Cyndie Morin and David Durocher win CMA 10K Championship

Cyndie Morin (W35-39) with a time of 40:04.00 from Montreal and David Durocher (M40-44), with a time 36:10.20 from Mont-St-Hilaire, were the first masters to cross the finish line at the 2013 Canadian Masters 10K Championship in St-Hyacinthe, QC, on Sunday, May 12th.

Cyndie was the first female finisher in the race (16th overall) and David the second male and first overall master.  First overall runner was Dany Croteau (M20-29) from Mont-St-Hilaire, with a time of 33:14.00 (non CMA championship).  In addition to their gold medals, Dany and Cyndie were each awarded a pair of running shoes from Asics, one of the race’s major sponsors.
It was a cool and cloudy morning for running, although there was some wind.  Participation in all four races (10K, 5K, Mile & 1K), making up the annual “Défi Gérard-Coté”, was a total of 1,820 finishers.  10K finishers added up to 341, including 214 masters, aged between 35 and 72, 117 male and 97 female, and 62 sub-masters aged 30-34 (30 male and 32 female).

Our oldest CMA member finishers were: Vern Christensen, 72 (50:49.4) from Toronto (CMA representative at the event and 1st M70); Normand “Nash” Gauthier, 66 (1:08:48.0 – 3rd M65) from Shawinigan, QC; and Marcel Jobin, 71 (56:02.9 – 4th, M70) from St-Boniface, QC, a World Masters Champion racewalker and 2012 Canadian Masters Athlete of the Year in Running/Racewalking.
