Karla Del Grande turned 70 years old the day before her first race at the World Masters Athletics (WMA) Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, and exited the meet with two world records (WR), and a gold and silver medal. Running in the W65-69 category because of her age on the first day of the meet, Karla blazed to a 1:11.34 in her preliminary round of the 400m, which lowered the W70 WR by several seconds. Two days later, Karla sprinted to a 9.29s Canadian 60m record and a silver medal in the 60m finals, just 0.08s over the W70 WR. The next day, she set a new W70 WR in the 200m preliminaries of 31.65s, only to lower it to 31.18s in a hard-fought final, winning gold. Karla resides in Toronto, Ontario, and is coached by Jamal Miller.

Johanna Flipsen, age 68, demonstrated a masterclass in race walking (RW) speed and form at the World Masters Athletics (WMA) Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, winning both individual gold medals in race walk. In the 3000m RW on the track, she finished about 90s clear of the next W65 competitor. The 10k road RW started all 55+ women together; Johanna finished not only ahead of the next W65-69 racer by 6 minutes, but also before all 60-64 women. Johanna ended the 2023 season ranked first in the world in the W65-69 1500m (track) and 3000m (track) race walks; rankings are not available for the 10k road. Johanna resides in Edmonton and is coached by Dave Keenan.

Jackson Hinton, 41 ans, a exécuté un éblouissant 60 m haies aux Championnats WMA en salle de Torun, remportant ainsi la médaille d’or en 8,15 s. Christophe Warburton, 57 ans, a fait une course exceptionnelle au 200 m le 31 mars aux Championnats WMA en salle de Torun. Qualifié pour la demi-finale à l’issue de 11 vagues préliminaires chez les H55, avec un chrono de 24,50 s, qui était sa meilleure performance de la saison, il a réalisé le deuxième temps mondial de 2023 chez les H55, soit 24,05 s, record canadien. Bien que son chrono de 24,20 s à la finale ait été un peu plus lent, il a remporté la médaille d’argent, et son temps de 24,05 s est vraiment remarquable. Christopher a également remporté la médaille d’or au 60 m en 7,54 s et s’est joint à Chris Lemassif, Marc Skeete et Yannick Le Mouël pour décrocher la médaille d’argent au relais 4 x 200 m des H55, où ils ont réalisé 1:40,74, record canadien. Christopher, qui habite à Toronto, est entraîné par Jamal Miller.
Marie Zambrano, 52 ans, a établi un nouveau record canadien du 3000 m en salle grâce à son extraordinaire performance aux championnats en salle de l’Alberta à Edmonton le 4 mars. Son chrono de 10:10,06, soit 35 s de moins que celui de la médaillée d’or aux Championnats WMA en salle de Torun, la classe au deuxième rang mondial cette année. Maria, qui habite à Calgary (Alberta), est entraînée par Alex Ulaszonek.
