Free Online Seminar: The Golden Rules of Masters Throwing

Canadian Masters Athletics is pleased to announce a free online seminar on Sunday, April 25 at 5:00pm (Eastern).

The Golden Rules of Masters Throwing

This session is a conversation with Bill Pearson and Kristen Dajia about what changes/adaptations they feel throwers need to consider to participate in the throwing events over the long term in masters athletics. The material will be presented in three sections:

Physical Training considerations

  • Including aspects such as mobility, flexibility, and balance, as well as lifting and recovery

Technical Training considerations

  • Addressing the need for fundamentals and the implications of reduced strength, power, and mobility on technique in the five throwing events

Psychological approaches to masters training and competition

  • Including the idea of “throwing against the tape,” training approaches in the 5 year age categories, resetting expectations, and social aspects of motivation and competition.

Bill Pearson is a longstanding member of the Canadian masters throws community, and a veteran of world, regional, and national championships.  He has been managing The Throwers Club in Ontario for the past 20 years, and has helped evolve it into an incredibly successful group of throwers operating out of Toronto, ON. Bill is currently 68 years old and competes in both the throws pentathlon and the individual throws events.

Kristen Dajia was a pioneer in women’s hammer throwing in Canada having trained and competed before the event was accepted on the world stage and was a mainstay on the podium at the Canadian Nationals for many years. She is a very accomplished masters thrower, holding national and provincial records in 4 different throws disciplines and in multiple age groups. Kristen is 58 years old and also competes in the throws pentathlon along with select individual throws events.
