Marcel Jobin Receives his 2012 Athlete of the Year Award

Marcel Jobin, from St. Boniface, Quebec, was honoured on Saturday, July 13, as he was publicly presented with his 2012 Athlete of the Year Award in the Male Running and Racewalk category by CMA Vice-President, Vern Christensen (R), and Bernard Lachance (L), CMA’s Quebec Director, at the 17th Edition of the “Demi-Marathon Marcel Jobin”, in the town of Yamachiche, QC.

Marcel, an ex-Olympian racewalker and for a number of years the holder of several Canadian records, had a more than successful year in 2012, breaking four Canadian Racewalk records. He was the world champion and gold medallist in the 3000m RW in the Indoor WMA Championhip in Finland in April, and the silver medallist in the 10K Road Walk in the same Championships. In August, Marcel also won two gold medals, in the 5000m and 10000m track walks, at the CMA & NCCWMA Championships held in Saint John, NB.

Marcel’s age-graded performances, as high as 89% in his 2012 racewalks, prove that he remains a very competitive athlete in the M70 age group.  He is now taking a little time off from racewalking, as he competed in the 5K road race in the Marcel Jobin event organized by “Milpat”, his local running club in the Mauricie Region of Quebec, placing third in his age group.

 Bravo Marcel.
