Ontario Masters Athletics held their 42nd annual Indoor Championships at the Toronto Track & Field Centre on February 27th. There were five performances that broke CAN records.
M75 Emil Muller shattered the CAN Record in the Weight Throw with a toss of 15.07m. Emil held the mark at 14.52
He broke the 11.33m Meet Record by almost four metres!
Emil recently moved to Ontario from Quebec. That will significantly impact the standings of the Alberta/Ontario Challenge in Sacramento this year!
Maria Mallia broke the W55 CAN Record in the High Jump. She tied Loretta Amerongen’s 1.28 CAN record on her third attempt, then broke it with her first attempt at 1.29, then broke it again with her first attempt at 1.30m
Maria broke Rhona Trott’s 1.17m Meet Record.
W80 Velta Tomsons broke her own 5.90 CAN Record with a put of 6.67m
Velta will be attempting to better her mark at the Canadian Masters Indoor Championships in Kamloops later this month.
OMA Hall Of Famer Jean Horne broke her own 22:51 CAN Record in the 3000m Racewalk by over a minute – with a 21:46.61
Jean retired from running due to injury. She holds CAN Records from 400m to 3000m. She was able to take up racewalking and continues to set records in her new event.
W50 Elizabeth Hill put the Shot 10.57m – further than the 10.51m CAN Record of 10.51m held by Liz McBlain AB in 1998. She broke the MR of 9.20m held by June Mayer in 1990.
There were 13 Meet Records broken at the championships.
M70 Marek Glowacki AB broke the CAN Record in the Shot Put
at the Van Ryswyk Invitational meet on Feb 20th in Kamloops BC.
Marek put it 13.39m on his third attempt. The previous mark was Garry Bachman ON 12.79m set in 1994. Marek shattered the 9.63m BC Masters Record held by Walter Jenkins from 1993. The photo is from the World Championships in Donostia Spain in 2005.
