Request for Canadian Master Athletics 2022 Athletes of the Year Nominations

At this time the Canadian Master Athletics (“CMA”) Board would like to invite all interested parties to put forward nominations for the 2022 CMA Athletes of the Year Awards. Nominations will be accepted through to March 15, 2023.

Please use this Nominations Form to submit a nomination for an individual in one of the following categories.

Individual Track Events – “Earl Fee Award”

Earl Fee, the great masters middle distance track athlete who, over the age 90, is still active and is still setting many new Canadian and World records and continues to inspire others.

Individual Field Events – “Olga Kotelko Award”

Late Olga Kotelko, who set more age group World records than any other athlete, in all age groups from 80 to 95 years of age, and has been an inspiration to many people Worldwide, and a great ambassador for masters track and field.

Combined Events – “Ian Hume Award”

Late Ian Hume who, beginning with the first World Masters Championships in Toronto in 1975 and for a period of 25 years, won 29 World Championship medals and set 40 World records in 9 events, including the Pentathlon and the Decathlon.

Non-Stadia Events – “Ed Whitlock Award”

Late Ed Whitlock, the road racing legend who, at age 69, became the oldest man to run a marathon in under 3 hours, and today still holds dozens of Canadian Road records, as well as World records in the Marathon for M70, M75, M80 and M85.

Awards Process

  • Nominations will be reviewed by the Athlete of the Year Committee and a Summary Report will be prepared and voted on by the board with an announcement by April 1, 2023
  • Once awarded an announcement will be made shortly thereafter on the CMA website and formal notification to the recipients
  • Honourable mentions will continue to be made on the website notifications
  • Formal Awards will be presented at the CMA Annual Awards Dinner at the CMA Outdoor Championships to be held in Langley, British Columbia from August 11-13, 2023 hosted by the Greyhounds Masters Track and Field Club or as otherwise arranged with the award winners.
