World Records at the NCCWMA/CMA Champs in Saint John

W70 Carol Lafayette-Boyd SK (L) had a 4.26m mark in the Long Jump Friday evening. That broke the 4.16m World Record held by Christiane Schmalbruch GER set at the Worlds in Riccione ITA in 2007. The mark also breaks Christa’s CAN record of 3.48m.

W75 Christa Bortignon BC scored 4743 points in the Pentathlon – breaking the World Record by over 200 points! The old record of 4531 was held by Leili Kass EST set in 2010.

W55 Johanna Flipsen AB broke her own CAN record (27:49) in the 5000m Racewalk with a time of 27:18.04. She also broke her CAN record in the 10K Roadwalk with a time of 56:46.00. She set the old mark of 56:54 at the Worlds in Sacramento last year.

M70 Marcel Jobin PQ broke Max Gould’s CAN record of 29:10 in the 5000m Racewalk with a time of 28:20.62 Max’s mark stood for 24 years!

W50 Elizabeth Hill ON scored 3235 points in the Throws Pentathlon – breaking Denise Clement’s CAN record of 3115 pts.

Besides the WR in the Long Jump, Carol also broke the CAN records in the 100m in 15.17 and the 200m in 31.51

She has a 14.91 mark in the 100m from July that is pending ratification. She broke Diane Palmason’s 33.70 mark in the 200m.

Matching Carol’s outstanding performances, Christa also broke the CAN records in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 80m Hurdles.

Her 16.72 in the 100m broke her own CAN of 16.81 set in May. It also broke the Meet Record of 18.31 that was 21 years old!

She broke her 34.93 CAN in the 200m with a time of 34.81.

Her 1:25.07 in the 400m broke Nessie Hollicky AB’s 1:38 CAN

Christa’s 80mH during the Pentathlon of 19.71 set a new CAN

The M70 4X400m CAN 5:32 mark fell to Doug Renwick, Vern Christensen, Roger Davies, and Chris Mackie with a time of 5:29.41
They broke the mark, which was also the MR set in Regina 2008.

The Canadian Championships have been held for the past 38 years. Breaking a Meet Record is quite an accomplishment – considering a number of the meets hosted the North American championships as well. There were FIFTY Meet Records broken in Saint John, testifying to the high quality of the championships.

W70 Margaret Tosh SK broke the MR’s in all five throwing events. She broke the record in the Shot from 1998, the Discus from 1991, the Hammer from 2000, the Javelin from 1991, and the Weight Throw from 2003.

Ernestine Ramirez Garcia from Mexico set W80 Meet Records in the 100m, 200m, and 400m.

W90 Olga Kotelko BC set MR’s in the Shot, Discus, Javelin, and Weight Throw….but didn’t break any of her marks in the sprints or jumps. 93 year old Olga isn’t as fast as 90 year old Olga….but is much stronger!

The 4X100m Relay Meet Records were safe, but three marks fell in the 4X400m;

Barb Saunders, Lenore Montgomery, Gail Teed, and Helly Visser set a W70 mark of 8:04.66

The M60 USA Team ran 4:38.23 – breaking a mark that was set at the very first championships in Richmond in 1974 – 38 years ago!
